Cast: Chadwick Boseman, Michal B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Martin Freeman, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright
Director: Ryan Coogler
The Story: The main story is placed in the fictional African city of Wakanda. Wakanda is also the only place where the rarest element, called Vibranium, can be found. Vibranium ensured an amazing technological advantage for Wakanda. In oder to keep their amazing properity and to void World's happening, Wakanda always pretended to be a poorly developed African country.
Wakanda always had its King, who with the use of special herb became the Black Panther. The herb bestowed amazing superhuman abilities, with which the King is able to truly protect his people.
However with the changing world Wakanda cannot stay hidden any longer and also have to join the fight for the sake of the world.
Opinion: Black panther was one of the best movies I could see in 2018. Even though it is a typical action Marvel movie, they put a lot of focus on the backround of the whole movie. The idea of mixing traditional African culture with futuristic technology was one of the best movie moves thoughout the whole year. However, the movie has much more to offer. Action fights followed with perfect GCI, music and funny jokes made sure I totally loved every second of this movie.
Recommendation: If you're Marvel fan and enjoy these comic-based movies, you definitely schould watch it. However, it also can be a very amusing movie for everybody else interested in sci-fi based movies
And for those who have already seen this movie WAKANDA FOREVER!
Venom
Review by Tom and Alex
Cast: Tom Hardy as Venom/Eddie, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, Riz Ahmed as Carlton Drake/Riot, Jenny Slate as Dr. Dora Skirth
Director: Ruben Fleischer
The Story: If you are a fan of Marvel comics, you have probably heard of the anti-hero, Venom. In this long awaited film, Eddie Brock, played by Tom Hardy, starts out as a curious journalist who gets caught up in controversy, causing him to lose his job. But given his determined nature, he continues to snoop around the city's largest medical research facility, knowing something is not quite right. After breaking into the laboratory late at night, Eddie is exposed to an extraterrestrial virus that infects and takes over his body. It was in this moment that Eddie was no longer alone, he was now one with Venom.
Opinion: In this film, Marvel provides the audience with a very likable character. Eddie is more realistic than heroes past because he follows his own set of morals. The dynamic between Eddie and Venom leads to some funny dialogue, giving the audience a few laughs. This film offers a good example of Marvel's effort to put more humor in their stories. This approach of adding comedy to the film has had questionable reviews from fans but us at JournClub Znojmo appreciated the jokes.
The ending of the movie definitely left potential for Marvel to expand outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If you follow the comics closely, then you might guess that Venom will be returning to cinemas with other superheroes, namely Spiderman.
Recommendation: Tom and Vita from our staff rates this film 7/10 among other MCU films Alex (new to the Marvel Universe) rates this film 6/10 Our editor Emily gives Venom a 5/10... Yikes!
